Family Spotlight: Home Sweet Home

A giggle here. A sneaky kiss there. Playing around on the beach.

Looking back at photographs, and getting a window into the love & connection held in those frozen moments, is a wonderful thing.

We loved seeing Nicole & Rhys’ recent family album come through. Their photoshoot captures a magical chapter in their family story, and you can just feel it through the images.

Nicole tells us why their Travelshoot was so well timed, and why she’s glad she put her camera-shyness aside to capture those once-in-a-lifetime family memories in a place that holds special meaning...

Hey

Tell us about your family! How do you like to spend your weekends?
Our little family is currently made up of my husband Rhys and I, our two-year-old son, Dash Felix, our little fur-baby (British Blue cat, Rafiki) & another human baby due in July!

When Rhys isn't busy playing cricket on a Saturday, we love being out and about. We like to go for bike rides, and will always say yes spending time at the beach. More recently we’ve been checking out beautiful open homes on our weekends… mainly to get ideas and inspiration for our exciting first home build at the end of the year!

What do you love about the Sunshine Coast? Why did you pick to have a photoshoot here?
I love Twin Waters as a location — the beach feels like home. I grew up on the Sunshine Coast from the age of 9 & we’ve recently moved back after spending the last 6 years in Brisbane. There really is no place like home, the lifestyle is great here! This particular location is also a lot more secluded than other beaches on the Coast, which makes it the perfect spot to hold something as special and personal as a family shoot.

Why did you decide to arrange a family photoshoot?
We chose to do this shoot as we are at a key time in our family journey (not long until we welcome another little member!), so we thought we should capture these precious last memories of us as a family of three. We knew it would be worth it — we did a pregnancy photoshoot when Dash was still a bump, and will treasure those photos for a lifetime.

Talk us through your Travelshoot experience and how it all went down!

Our experience was great! It got off to a slightly stressful start when we arrived a little late due to, well… being the parents of a toddler! But our photographer was so relaxed about everything, and made us feel really comfortable — we had such a good time. It really showed that Chevaune was used to working with families, as she was so good at connecting with Dash. He was a complete show pony the entire time, and thoroughly enjoyed himself!

I love that the shots are so candid, and captured us just being ‘us’. Nothing was staged, and it shows. The photos feel relaxed, and just have a real magic to them.

What would be your advice to a family thinking about booking a shoot?
I highly recommend doing a family shoot! You’ll always be glad that you did!  I’m notoriously camera-shy and was a bit hesitant about booking it all, but am so glad we did. This little window of time in our family story won’t last for long, and I know I’d have really regretted not capturing these special moments with my two boys. The photos are already so precious to us.

What’s your favourite shot from your Travelshoot? Why do you love it?
Oh that’s a difficult one! It’s so hard to choose just one! There are so many, but if I had to pick a favourite, I really do love the black and white shot of us swinging Dashy in the air over the waves. It captures Rhys and I perfectly — happy go lucky, chilling out at the beach, with our pride & joy!

Life is always changing — kids have this habit of growing up far too quickly!
